JOHN D. COE was born in Ramapo, Orange (now Rockland) County, N. Y., June 12, 1790. It was in 1816 that he settled on military lot No. 70. For many years he served as a magistrate and Associate Judge of Seneca County Courts. In 1834-35 he represented the county in the Assembly. For forty years he was Treasurer of the Seneca County Agricultural Society. His experience as a surveyor made his services valuable, especially during the early history of this section, in the subdivision of the land. He died in November, 1878, aged eighty-eight.
